New Year’s Resolutions for Boaters

After the year we’ve had, it’s safe to say we are all looking forward to starting fresh in 2021. Why not set some new year’s resolutions in all aspects of your life, even boating!

If you’re an avid boater like us, check out our recommendations for resolutions heading into the new year:

Take A Safety Course: It never hurts to take a boating safety class. With more boaters hitting the water than ever before, we could all use a refresher on being safe and smart. If you’d like to sharpen your boating skills every further, consider taking a course on navigating with GPS, tying knots, using the VHF radio and more.

Upgrade Your Life Jackets: Have you seen the latest life jackets these days? I know many of us have the traditional bright orange, over the head floatation devices but there are so many more comfortable and stylish versions available today. With drowning a leading cause of death on the water, invest in life jackets that will encourage your guests to wear them.

Update Your Emergency Equipment: Safety first –always. Be sure to check all of your emergency gear to ensure it is in working order and not expired. This includes fire extinguishers, flares, and smoke/carbon monoxide detectors. It is equally important to check your shore power electrical connector. If there are signs of corrosion or damage, it’s time for an upgrade. SmartPlug is the new industry standard for electrical connection safety.

Spend More Time on the Water: Every year we all say I, but now is the time to actually do it! For most boaters, the season is only a few short months out of the year. This coming year, make the commitment to enjoy as much time on the water as you can! The fresh air and open waters are bound to be good for all!

What are you boating resolutions for 2021? We would love to hear – tell us in the comments!
