A fire on a boat can spread fast and when you\u2019re out on the open water, you have limited options to remove yourself from danger. Follow these tips to help prevent a fire from occurring on your next boating excursion:<\/p><p><strong>Preparation&amp; Prevention&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p><ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Take a safety course including first aid and fire extinguisher use.<\/li><li>Have multi-purpose ABC fire extinguishers both in and outside the cabin and ensure your passengers know where they are located.<\/li><li>Make sure you have a communication source in case of emergency.<\/li><li>Maintain your engine and electrical systems, always use a professional specializing in boat engines to perform maintenance and repairs.<\/li><li>Make sure ventilation on your boat complies with Coast Guard standards.<\/li><li>Ensure proper installation and inspection of batteries.<\/li><li>Smoke detectors and carbon monoxide detectors are a must in the cabin.<\/li><\/ul><p><strong>Safety When Docked<\/strong><\/p><ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Properly store flammable liquids in a safe location.<\/li><li>Have safety equipment, including fire extinguisher, life vests, and first aid readily available in a dock box in case of emergency.<\/li><li>Ensure a secure shore power connection. <a href=\"https:\/\/smartplug.com\/oldsite\/product-category\/marine\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">SmartPlug<\/a> reduces the risk of fire with its triple weatherproof seals, solid sleeve connection,and multi-point locking system.<\/li><li>Never leave portable heaters or appliances on when you are not on the boat.<\/li><li>Make sure your marina is supplying you with the proper electrical voltage.<\/li><\/ul><p><strong>If A Fire Occurs<\/strong><\/p><ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Stop the engine immediately.<\/li><li>Position your boat so that the wind blows the fire away from your boat.
